Mr. Darren Russell, Principal

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year.  I am excited to start my fourth year as principal of Spencer Middle School and look forward to continuing my work with this fabulous school community.

I began my teaching career in this District in 1989.  I worked here for 6 years before heading off for a one-year teacher exchange program in Perth, Australia.  I returned to the District and became a Vice-Principal in September 2006 and took on a principal role in 2014.  My last 3 years as principal of Spencer Middle School have been very rewarding and I look forward to working with this school community for a few more years.

This will be my last year at Spencer Middle School.  I have been given the amazing opportunity to be the principal of the new middle school in the Westhills area, Centre Mountain Lellum Middle School.  This school will open in September 2022, but I will be pulled from Spencer sometime between January-April.  There has been no confirmed date at this time.  When I do leave, Ms. Jen Nixon will become the principal of Spencer Middle School.

I am so fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people.  The staff at Spencer Middle School are outstanding educators and we love working with such a great group of students every day.  We truly care for the students and we will do our best to create a culture that is calm, safe and welcoming.  At Spencer we value Empathy, Honesty, Kindness and Respect.  Every day we strive to create the best learning environment for the whole school community.

Communication is very important to me.  I encourage parents to stay involved and connect with our staff.  Please contact us if you have any questions, ideas or concerns.  Thank you for your support.
