At Spencer and in District 62, we understand if students are hungry, this will be an obstacle to their learning. As a result, we offer several different food programs for students and families to ensure they have access to nourishing, healthy meals:

Breakfast Program – The Breakfast Program provides a welcome and inclusive space and enables students to have a small breakfast before school. The Breakfast Program runs out of the Textiles Room and is open to all students. It is run by volunteers from YFC and financially supported by parents, community members, local organizations and businesses. It runs Monday-Friday from 8:00 – 8:45 am and is drop-in.

Hot Lunch Program – Through the support of a Ministry of Education and Childcare Grant, Spencer is working with the Flourish School Food Society to provide hot, healthy and nourishing lunches to students. Access to the lunch program is currently limited with only 40 meals per day, so priority for this program goes towards families who really need it. Please contact the office if you wish to ensure your child has access to this program. For more information on the Flourish School Food Society, or to see monthly menus please see their website.

Backpack Buddies – This organization enables your child to bring home a bag of non-perishable items to help you get through the weekend. The bags are delivered to the school once per week and must go home on Fridays. Please have your child pick them up at the canteen at lunch on Friday. If you wish your child to have access to Backpack Buddies, please contact the office.

BC School Fruit and Veggie Program – This monthly program provides healthy, local produce to all students to encourage healthy food choices. All homeroom classes will receive the delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables. If you do not want your student to take part, then please contact us.
